Mary Furlong
Mary graduated from the University of Mississippi with Bachelor’s degrees in both Anthropology and History. While in Mississippi, she got her first taste of archaeology at the Parchman Mound Site near Clarksdale, MS. Wanting to combine her interests in history and anthropology, Mary then enrolled in the University of West Florida, where she is currently working on her Master’s degree in historical archaeology. Before joining the Florida Public Archaeology Network, Mary participated in a variety of public archaeological excavations and outreach projects with the University of West Florida, including excavations on Santa Rosa Island and in downtown Pensacola. In addition, Mary spent several years as a guide and public interpreter for West Florida Historic Preservation, Inc. and continues work with the Saint Michael’s Cemetery Foundation to protect and interpret the archaeology of the cemetery.
