Why the NSF ADVANCE Program?More women than ever are obtaining Ph. D's in science, however women continue to be significantly underrespresented in almost all science and engineering academic positions. The full participation of women in academic STEM careers is important given the pivotal roles that faculty members and administrative leadership have as intellectual, professional, personal, and organizational role models that shape the expectations of many prospective scientists and engineers.
