Next Steps for Admitted International Students
你好, ¡Hola!, مرحبا, Olá! and welcome to UWF! Getting adjusted to UWF can be challenging with housing, arrival, and maintaining legal immigration status - but don't worry, we are here to help!
First Steps: Financial Statements, Student Visa, Transfer Coursework, and Campus Visit
Submit Confidential Financial Statement
You must provide proof of sufficient funds for academic and personal expenses, including health insurance, for the duration of program of studies. The Form I-20 will be issued approximately 4-5 business days after approved financial documents are received.
Applying for Your F-1 Student Visa
International students are issued a Form I-20 by International Student Services after an approved confidential financial statement is received. The Form I-20 is used to apply for an F-1 student visa.
You can pay your SEVIS fee at www.fmjfee.com. The University of West Florida school code is MIA214F00366000.
After submitting your SEVIS fee payment, you can schedule an appointment with an embassy or consulate for your visa interview. Please refer to the U.S. Department of State Student Visa Website to be guided through the process.
Transferring Your F-1 Student Visa? (Students already enrolled at a U.S. institution)
If you are an F-1 student who is transferring from an institution in the United States to the University of West Florida, either before completion of your current program of study or after having completed your program of study, you must transfer your SEVIS record to UWF.

Planning for Your Arrival
Apply for On-Campus Housing
Housing is always in high demand, so be sure to complete and submit a housing contract as soon as possible. Students are encouraged to apply for housing by the priority deadline.
Planning Your Arrival in Pensacola
Look out for our UWF welcome table at the Pensacola International Airport.
It is suggested that students plan to arrive by plane. Trains and buses are not typically convenient transportation in this region. The nearest airport is Pensacola International Airport (PNS).
Upon arrival, students typically take a taxi to the university. Taxicab fare usually costs between $25-$35 (USD).
Students should plan on arriving prior to their scheduled orientation(s) and start of classes. Upon arrival, students are required to check in with UWF International Student Services to formally confirm arrival.
Check In with UWF International Student Services
All new international students must check in with International Student Services upon arrival, usually at the New International Student Orientation. We are located in Bldg. 71. Legal status is not activated until check in is completed.
At check in, students need to bring:
- Form DS-2019
- Proof of health insurance or a credit card to purchase health insurance
Students who do not check in within thirty (30) days lose their legal status as non-immigrants and will be terminated.
Submit Any Final Academic Documents
All students are required to have their final transcripts sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions once they graduate from high school or complete final college coursework prior to the start of your classes.
Students can check their UWF account balance and make payments online through their CashNet app.
