Applying as a Freshman Student

When you’re ready to apply, please follow this step-by-step guide. The priority deadline to apply is December 1st. By applying early you will be able to receive priority consideration for housing options and orientation dates.

  1. Complete and submit a Freshman application.
  2. Submit the $30 application fee or fee waiver.
  3. Submit official High School transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  4. Submit all official SAT reasoning and/or ACT plus writing exams.

How Long Does it Take to Receive an Admissions Decisions?

Verify all your required documentation has been received from viewing your "Application status" inside MyUWF. Once all required academic documentation is received a decision usually takes 2-4 weeks, depending on the time of the year. We are dedicated in conducting admission evaluations as quickly as possible, but it is up to the applicant to verify all needed documentation is received in a timely manner. Students should check their status often.

  • Online & Credit Card Payments: Log back-into your Freshmen or Transfer application to complete credit card and/or online payment.
  • Mail Check/Money Order to:
    • UWF Cashier, 11000 University Pkwy, Pensacola, FL 32514
    • *Don't forget to print your UWF ID# on your Check/Money Order
  • Pay in Person (Cash or Check ONLY): Bldg. 20 - Cashier's Office

2. Application Fee Waiver

  • Acceptable waivers: NACAC waiver, ACT waiver, SAT waiver or free/reduced lunch qualifier (letter/email from high school guidance counselor). Send waivers to UWF via email, fax, regular mail or stop by to drop off.

Freshman Admission Requirements

The successful freshman applicant will demonstrate his or her potential for success by completing a rigorous College Preparatory Curriculum with a competitive grade point average, showing strong SAT or ACT score results. Admissions decisions are based on the total student portfolio and demonstrated potential for contribution to the university and probability for success.

In the application review process, UWF strives to discover students who will bring academic and creative achievements, elements of diversity, and who have the potential to make significant contributions to society. The incoming Fall 2014 freshman class has an average high school GPA of 3.59average ACT of 23.74, and an average SAT of 1532 (M+CR+W). The following items are required to be considered for admission to UWF and need to be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as soon as students apply.

  1. Official High School Transcript (High School Academic Courses)- Eligible candidates will have the following courses completed in these subject areas at the time of high school graduation:         
    • 4 units – English         
    • 4 units – Math (Algebra I and above)          
    • 3 units – Natural Science          
    • 3 units – Social Science          
    • 2 units – Foreign Language (Level II or higher)         
    • 2 units – Electives from areas above 
  2. Official ACT Plus Writing or SAT Reasoning Test- We will accept either the ACT Plus Writing or SAT (or both). The best sub-sectional scores from each test will be used for the evaluation. Be sure to submit all test results. The writing section is required for an admissions decision. 
  3. $30 Application Fee  or Fee Waiver
  4. (Optional) Additional Items - The following items are not required but, may also be taken into consideration as a part of the evaluation process:
    • Letters of recommendation           
    • Personal Essay        
    • Resume - summary of special talents or skills

Alabama Residency Tuition

Residents of Alabama are eligible for the Alabama (Differential) Tuition Plan, a reduced out-of-state tuition rate. To qualify for the Alabama Tuition Differential Plan, students must complete the Alabama Residency Classification Form‌. For consideration Alabama residents must demonstrate:

  • US Citizenship
  • Independent or Dependent status on recent tax filings
  • Permanent Resident (green card holder) or legal alien granted indefinite stay by the US Department of Homeland Security

The University of West Florida has been authorized to offer qualified residents of Alabama a special out-of-state tuition rate. Qualification is based upon documented evidence of legal residence in the State of Alabama for at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes. UWF is affordable to our Alabama neighbors, learn more about the cost of attendance and about Alabama residency requirements.
