Background

The University of West Florida was honored by a bequest from the late Dr. John C. Pace, Jr., to establish an endowment to make it possible for high school scholars to pursue studies at the University. The scholarship award is the most prestigious offered by the University to incoming freshman.

Scholarship Components

• The scholarship totals $20,000 ($5,000 a year, eight semesters or four years) for full-time entering freshman.
• Applicants who are qualified to apply as John C. Pace, Jr. Scholars are also eligible to apply for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships, which are administered by the state of Florida.
• An educational enhancement experience during one of the summers the recipient is classified as an UWF-upper division student is an additional component of the award. Examples of summer experiences include:
  • Internships in Washington, D.C.
  • Art Studies in Italy
  • Mission work in China
  • Environmental research in Australia

Selection Criteria

• High school academic record
• Standardized test scores
• Leadership activities
• High school and community involvement

The scholarship is only available to Florida residents and priority is given to applicants from high schools in West Florida. A separate scholarship application is required and can be obtained from the Office of Admissions, from your high school guidance counselor, or from our web site (pdf). The scholarship application, admissions application, and all supporting credentials must be submitted to the UWF Admissions Office by February 1st.
