Taking Courses as a Non-Degree Student

Students are eligible to consider taking courses as a non-degree student.  The benefits of taking the courses in this classification stem from an individual looking to use the course and credits for a personal reason: maybe a personal commitment to improving one's education; looking to transfer a course back to a different institution as a degree-seeker; looking to capitalize on the availability of courses to satisfy a pre-requisite of some kind for additional academic certifications, etc.

Entering the university as a non-degree candidate for admission is a fast and easy process.  Non-degree candidates are not required to submit any transcripts for admission purposes, though there are times when a transcript may be necessary for pre-requisite checking.  In many cases, an unofficial copy of a transcript may be suitable for non-degree candidates.

One area of the non-degree application process that is often overlooked is the section regarding Residency for Tuition Purposes.  Please be sure to complete all three sections of the non-degree application for maximum consideration as a resident for tuition purposes.  Even though you may be confident that you or a child would be considered a resident for tuition purposes, UWF is required to make that distinction only when the proof is made available.

Cautions Associated with Non-Degree @ UWF

Non-degree candidates have some specific differences to consider.  Unfortunately, non-degree candidates are not eligible to receive financial aid benefits to help pay for UWF.  Additionally, non-degree candidates are allowed to register with very low priority, providing no conflict with current, continuing students for class availability.  Finally, non-degree students are welcome to transfer some of their credits into a degree-seeking pathway at some point.  You are only able to transfer a maximum of 15 credits into a degree program at UWF from non-degree status.
