April Progress Report
The SAVE committee established the following questions to guide the environmental scanning process:
- Balance/expectations between teaching, research, and service.
- Who are we / what are our strengths and who do we want to become?
- What are key programs that UWF wants to be known for, how do we match the needs of/strengths of NWF & state, how do we focus and grow them?
- What type of university does UWF want to be?
- What are our weakness – faculty, staff, students?
- How do we retain good faculty/students?
- How do we make sure we stand for quality? Demonstrate Quality? Define quality?

Communications Subcommittee Members: Jane Halonen & Kathy Johnson
What we accomplished in the past month:
- Developed the Academic Visioning website and alerted the campus to its presence.
- Met with Marketing Communications to explore what kinds of communications should transpire with the media.
- Developed and posted "Frequently Asked Questions" about the academic visioning process.
- Linked the SWOT analysis to the website to gather feedback from interested parties who will not be participating through other outreach efforts.
What we plan to accomplish in the next month:
- Develop a strategy to reach UWF students mediated through the UWF Facebook page with the help of Marketing Communications.
- Monitor incoming feedback on the site and update the FAQs.
- Be "on call" to address the communication needs of the other subcommittees.

- Developed a work plan
- Established data definitions
- Established data sampling intervals
- Identifies data sources
- Began gathering data from identified sources
What we plan to accomplish in the next month:
- Complete data collection
- Begin data analysis
- Develop PowerPoint presentation for Data Conference

What we accomplished in the past month:
- Identified types of data to collect
- Identified appropriate data sources
- Collected data in the following areas:
- Potential traditional and nontraditional students
- High school graduation rates
- Percent of high school students entering college
- Military and adult learners
- Enrollments in degree programs across Florida
- Comparison of UWF to peer and aspirant institutions
- Student/faculty ratios
- Faculty salaries
- Began preparation of presentation for data conference
What we plan to accomplish in the next month:
- Continue collection and organization of data
- Analyze and make sense of data
- Continue preparation of presentation for data conference

What we accomplished in the past month:
- Developed a work plan
- Developed an online survey
- Planned three town-hall meetings (one for students, one for faculty, and one for staff)
- Sent online survey to alumni and students
- Conducted the student town-hall meeting
What we plan to accomplish in the next month:
- Complete the online survey and town-hall meetings
- Begin data analysis
- Begin to develop a PowerPoint presentation for data conference

What we accomplished in the past month:
- Developed a work plan
- Received Institutional Review Board approval of plan and SWOT survey instrument
- Met with sample of key groups
- Adapted survey instruments for online access
- Began distributing online survey to variety of external groups
What we plan to accomplish in the next month:
- Complete data collection
- Begin data analysis
- Develop a PowerPoint presentation for Data Conference
