The University of West Florida (UWF) is one of 12 universities in the State University System (SUS) of Florida and sits on 1,600 acres that includes nature trails and a wildlife preserve. It is the largest university in the SUS in terms of acreage. UWF was founded in 1967 as an upper division institution. In 1983, it enrolled its first freshman class. UWF enrolls 12,823 students achieving its 12,000-student enrollment goal one year early. Enrollment has grown 3% annually for the last 2 years. A record freshman class of 1,847 entered in Fall 2012. The University just launched its 2012-2017 strategic plan, which includes the creation of this position.
The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO)/Associate Vice Provost (AVP) for Equity, Diversity and International Affairs, position #120400, will lead the newly formed Office of Equity, Diversity and International Affairs and is responsible for coordinating executive efforts to establish and strengthen diversity and “inclusive excellence” as core values throughout all aspects of the University community, including but not limited to business and hiring practices, curriculum, recruitment and programming. The CDO/AVP coordinates diversity-affirming programs and initiatives, including the development and implementation of a strategic plan for diversity aligned with the University’s strategic plan. As a University leader, the CDO/AVP maintains strong collaborative working relationships among senior executives, faculty, students, staff and external constituents to create a culture of inclusion throughout campus. The CDO/AVP serves as the University’s Title IX Coordinator, reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is a member of the President’s Cabinet.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization, six years of experience and leadership in advancing diversity and/or international programs; excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: Terminal degree from an accredited institution and qualify for an appointment in an academic department; successful record of leading and advancing diversity and/or international programs in a higher education context; prior experience in strategic planning, budget management and staff supervision; demonstrated experience in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders; understanding of EEO, affirmative action, Title IX and other compliance regulations within higher education.
