Preparation For Tutoring Sessions

This page provides information on what students need to do in order to prepare for a tutoring session.

It is important to be prepared for your tutoring session, whether it be walk-in or scheduled. Tutors can most effectively help students when they know what is needed, so please be prepared.

Before Tutoring

  • Review the materials you have so you know what you understand and what is giving you trouble.
  • Write down any questions or concerns you have that you want the tutor to help with.
  • Make sure you have all the materials you need (syllabus, textbook, notes, etc.).

During Tutoring

  • Let the tutor know what you want to work on.
  • Ask questions about anything confusing. (If tutors could read minds, they’d make a lot more money.)
  • Take notes that you can look at later for studying or practice.

After Tutoring

  • Review what you learned.
  • Keep practicing!
  • Make a follow up appointment to review or go over new content.
