Professional Education Unit
Year of First Accreditation: 1993
Year of Most Recent Accreditation: 2011
Year Current Accreditation Expires: 2019
The Professional Education Unit (including teacher preparation programs in the Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership, the Department of Movement Sciences and Health, and the Department of Music) is currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs (traditional and alternative) and advanced educator preparation programs at the Pensacola and online campuses. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P-12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes. In preparation of UWF's upcoming accreditation visit in 2019, the Professional Education Unit is currently aligning the educator preparation programs to the new Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards of educator preparation. At the state level, all initial certification programs have received approved by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE).
Teacher and school administrator preparation programs are also reviewed and approved by the Florida Department of Education.
