2:   What should I do if I am charged with violating the UWF Code of Conduct?

Upon receiving notification that you have been charged, you should call the appropriate administrator to schedule an appointment within five working days. It is important to remember that at this point in the judicial process, this charge is only an allegation. You have not been found responsible for the charge and will have an opportunity to explain your side of the incident prior to a decision being made. Return to top.

3:   What will happen once I schedule an appointment to discuss the incident?

At this meeting, the administrator will introduce himself/herself, review your rights within the judicial process and discuss the incident with you. Once a determination has been made by the hearing officer about whether a violation has occurred, a sanction may be imposed if you are found responsible. A sanction is only imposed in cases where a student has been found responsible for a Code of Conduct or Housing violation(s). Return to top.

4:   What is the objective of sanctioning a student who has violated a university policy?

The goal of the judicial process is to educate the student about their obligations under our university rules and policies and to hopefully ensure that a violation does not occur again.  Sanctioning can take many forms including restrictions on contact, restitution, counseling and educational programs. 5:   What are my basic or fundamental rights in the student judicial process?

A full disclosure of your rights within the judicial process can be found in the Student Handbook. However, some of the essential rights that you have include the right to receive notification of the charges and allegations against you, the ability to review any information contained in your file, and the right to present information and witnesses on your behalf at the hearing.  You are also allowed to have an advisor present during your hearing. However, the advisor's role is limited during the hearing to helping you prepare and advising you. They cannot examine or cross-examine those giving testimony or participate in the hearing. 6:   What are the students' responsibilities in the student judicial process?

It is expected that you will attend all judicial meetings and hearings, tell the truth, assume responsibility for mistakes and complete all required sanctions. Additionally, it is important for you to realize that it is your responsibility to provide any and all information and witnesses on your own behalf at the meeting or hearing. Return to top.

7:   What happens then?  Do I have the right to appeal the outcome of my meeting or hearing?

Within five working days, you will receive a written copy of the decision.  A student can appeal the decision of a meeting or hearing by submitting a written request for review within five working days after the receipt of your written decision.
