BCF WORKSHOP HOME
Welcome to the Building Creative Futures Workshop for Art Educators!
The Building Creative Futures Workshop is a unique professional development opportunity for art educators. The program is designed as a platform to CONNECT professional art educators from all over the country. Here they come together to share concepts regarding applying new approaches to classroom settings, while striving to CREATE a personal body of work within a stimulating studio environment. After the BCF Workshop, art teachers go back to their classrooms equipped with new skills and tools to INSPIRE young, creative minds.
Dr. Carol Edwards, Workshop Director:
Many art educators in the southeast remember Dr. Carol Edwards from one of the numerous summer workshops she led for art teachers across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and elsewhere in the region. Carol began offering these workshops for the Getty Foundation, while she was still completing her doctoral studies in Art Education at Florida State University. Later, when she served as Chair of the Art Department at Kennesaw State College, the newly-minted Dr. Edwards continued to offer workshops to appreciative audiences because, as she said, “the feedback from teachers really energizes me.” Evidently, it is this level of enthusiasm for teaching and for teachers that earned Dr. Edwards her first deanship at Western Washington University. Today, Dean Edwards serves as head of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech University.
The BCF workshop is sponsored by the University of West Florida Department of Art and the Division of Continuing Education.
