Located in Northwest Florida, UWF is minutes from the Alabama border and some of the world’s best beaches. Convenient to both I-10 and I-65, the University's main campus in Pensacola is only three hours from Tallahassee, less than four hours to New Orleans and approximately five hours to Atlanta.
Pensacola's waters provide a wealth of opportunities for activities including swimming, surfing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and diving. The white sands and warm waters along the Gulf of Mexico attract thousands of locals and vacationing visitors to the beach throughout the year.
The area boasts various prized attractions, such as the USS Oriskany, a World War II aircraft carrier that was sunk 24 miles offshore to create a 130-foot-deep artificial reef for sport divers. Other popular spots include Fort Pickens at Santa Rosa Island and several Spanish American War batteries.
Known as the "Cradle of Naval Aviation," Pensacola boasts American air and space history on display aboard the Pensacola Naval Air Station at the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
Pensacola is home to a vibrant arts and culture scene, showcased at the Pensacola Museum of Art, Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts, Museum of Commerce, Pensacola Lighthouse, Pensacola Historic Museum, Ballet Pensacola and Pensacola Saenger Theatre. Pensacola also hosts annual festivals, cultural events and performances throughout the year.
